Howard Denver Darkes May 16, 1916-Aug. 1916-Aug. 1916-Aug. 20, 1996 Graveside services for Howard Howard Denver Darkes, 80, of Hebron, are at 1 p.m. Thursday Thursday at Kirkersville Cemetery with Pastor Stephen A. Rine-hart Rine-hart Rine-hart officiating. Mr. Darkes, who retired in 1978 from Licking Memorial Hospital as chief engineer, died Aug. 20, 1996, at his residence. residence. He was born May 16, 1916, in Newark, to the late Charles and Maude (White) Darkes. Mr. Darkes was employed for 28 years with Pure Oil Heath Refinery. He served in the U.S. Marine Corps during World War II, and was a member member of the Heath Refinery POCO Club and American Legion. In 1936, Mr. Darkes graduated from Union High School. He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Rachel E. (Hughes) Darkes, whom he married Dec. 31, 1937; three daughters and sons-in-law, sons-in-law, sons-in-law, sons-in-law, sons-in-law, Sherry and John DeVault of Granville, Patricia and Bill Cunningham of Hebron, and Kay and John George of Dublin; four grandchildren; grandchildren; two step-grandchildren; step-grandchildren; step-grandchildren; step-grandchildren; five greatgrandchildren; greatgrandchildren; three step-great-grandchildren; step-great-grandchildren; step-great-grandchildren; step-great-grandchildren; step-great-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews. Two brothers and a sister preceded him in death. No calling hours will be observed.
