A A A A A A A A The Newark Advocate MARK SMITH Mark Smith, 66, member of Glenford village council, a former custodian at Glenford School 16 years, died Monday night in Bethesda Hospital, Zanesville. In fail- Deaths and ing health several years, he was admitted to the hospital Dec. 16. A lifelong resident of Hopewell Township, he was the son of George F. and Sarah (King) Smith.

Surviving are his widow, Mrs. Daisy Smith: seven a daughters, Mrs. Eileen Wilkins and Mrs. Doris Brown, both of Glenford, Mrs. Pearl Foster and Mrs.

Marie Weekley; both of Newark, Mrs. Margaret Soule in North Carolina, Misses Betty Smith of the home and Monabelle Smith of Columbus: seven sons. Don, Lawrence and Harold Smith, all of Newark, Maurice of Perry, George Franklin, of Glenford, Dana L. of Buckeye Lake and Clifford Smith of Cleveland; also 24 grandchildren and one great-grandchild; one sister, Mrs. Lillie Henderson of Monroe, and two brothers, Homer Smith of Glenford and Ray Smith of Somerset.

Mr. Smith was a member of St. Paul Evangelical Reformed Church, where the Rev. R. S.

Beaver, will conduct services ate 21 p. m. Thursday. Burial will be made in the adjoining cemetery. The body is at the Boring Funeral Dec.

his widow, the former Goldie Miller of Newark, leaves one sister, Mrs. O. E. Dusthimer of White Chapel one brother, J. Howard Hartsough of Newark.

Mrs. Jesse Woolard of Jacksontown is the niece of Mr. Hartsough. A member the Monroe Methodist Church of Toledo, Mr. Hartsough was also a member of Local 1138, Carpenters Union.

Funeral services will be held at p. m. Wednesday in Toledo, burial will be made Thursday in Brownsville Cemetery, in Brownsville, Licking County, with a service at the grave. The funeral cortege is expected at the cemetery at 1 p. m.

Thursday. Mrs. Elva Hogan, 81, widow of James H. Hogan, former Newark resident, died at 3:25 p. m.

Monday in the home of her son, R. Hogan, 13 Cottage, Mt. Vernon. She had been in failing health since she suffered a broken hip in a fall in 1951, and seriously ill the past month. Mrs.

Hogan, who had lived in Mt. Vernon five years, was a former resident of 43 East St. She made Newark her home 36 years. Born May 24, 1874, in Ironton, she was the daughter of Robert B. and Anna (Garrison) Reynolds, and was the last of her immediate family, Her first husband Homer Murphy, preceded her in death in 1902.

She later, married James H. Hogan, who died in 1940. Surviving also are two other sons, Willard R. and James B. Hogan, both of Dayton; also nine grandchildren and four.

great grandchildren. Two eight brothers and two sisters are deceased. Mrs. Hogan was a member of Trinity AME Church; Buckeye Eights; Queen Anne Chapter, OES, and the Nimble Thimble Club. The funeral will be held at 2 p.

JAMES H. HOGAN Charles H. Keck, 62, U. S. Army (retired), died Tuesday morning in Ft.

Howard Veterans Hospital, Baltimore Md. He had been in failing health for some time and before entering the hospital where he died, had been a patient in Walter Reed Hospital, Washington, D. C. Col. Keck, before his retirement two years ago was in command of Pueblo Ordnance Depot, Pueblo, Colo.

He entered the U. S. Army in 1914, and was a veteran of World War I. He spent five years in Panama. Born July 19, 1893, in Vinton County, he was son of Edmund D.

Keck and the late Mrs. Clara (Bierhup) Keck. His widow, Mrs. Cecilia Keck survives; also two daughters, Mrs. Edward Gebhart of Cincinnati, Mrs.

Gordon Cowan, Long Island, N. one son, Charles H. Keck of Baltimore, also grandchildren; his father and a brother Clifford Keck, both of Swans Rd. The body will be received the Gutliph Henderson Funeral Home. Funeral arrangements are incomplete.

MISS ROSE MARIE DARKES COL. C. H. KECK In failing health eight years, the result of complications following rheumatic fever, 18-year-old. Rose Marie Darkes, Newark RFD 3, died Monday in University Hospital, Columbus.

She had been seriously ill three weeks and was admitted to the hospital Dec. 12. Before her health failed she was a pupil at Madison School. The daughter of Fred E. Darkes and the late Mrs.

Dorothy 4 A. (Sullivan) Darkes, she was born June 28, 1937, -in Licking County. Her father, a brother Thomas Darkes of Columbus, and two sisters, Mrs. Fred Kreager of the Claylick vicinity and Mrs. Vernon Vermillion on of Newark, survive.

The body is at the Householder Funeral Home where the Rev. Glenn Biddle will officiate at services at 2:30 p. m. Thursday. Burial will be made in Spring Grove Cemetery.
