Paul Reiser LOS ANGELES Paul Reiser has some keen new insights since he became a parent. And some advice: Throw out his old book. Reiser, co-star of NBC's "Mad About You" and author of "Cou-plehood," is turning his comic observations to parenthood these days. He signed a publishing deal reportedly REISER worth $5 million.

His first book was a best-seller, with 2.5 million copies in print. But he's got a new take on things domestic since Ezra Samuel, his first child, was born in September. "It's true what they say: A baby does change everything," Reiser said Thursday. "So, whatever I said in forget it. Disregard completely.

"In fact, if you have the book there, just throw it out. Seriously. Toss it." Jimmy Jam, Terry Lewis MINNEAPOLIS Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis went back to high school to get lyrical about literacy. The Grammy-winning producers returned to Lewis' alma mater, Minneapolis North, to talk about the importance of reading and writing in making music. "Music is such a great teaching tool," Jam said Thursday.

"If you think about the first thing that you learn as a kid, it's to recite the alphabet, but you learn it with a melody." 1 The appearance kicked off the Literacy Lyric Project, sponsored by the International Association of African American Music and the American Society of Composers, Authors and Publishers. "The thread that we see here is that in many of these recent actions, our crews have made the decision either too late or not at all to eject from an aircraft that's too damaged to be saved." The EA-6B "Prowler" was 40 miles from the Kitty Hawk when it plunged into the sea 150 miles from San Diego. The squadron was at Miramar Naval Air Station in San Diego for carrier training. The Prowler crash came six days after an F-14D "Tomcat" fighter crashed off the San Diego coast, killing two crew members during exercises involving the carrier Carl Vinson.

That crash was one of 32 in the last five years involving F-14s and prompted the Navy to ground its entire fleet of F-14s through Feb. 25. The dead crewmember in Saturday's crash was identified as Lt. Cmdr. James M.

Carrier returns after fatal SAN DIEGO (AP) The USS Kitty Hawk is back in port and its aircraft remain grounded today as investigators search for clues in the crash of one of the carrier's radar-jamming jets during a training exercise.

Saturday's accident left one crew member dead, two injured and a fourth missing. The eighth crash involving a Navy aircraft in two months prompted Pacific Fleet Vice Admiral Brent M. Bennitt to ground all 1,600 aircraft stationed at 79 squadrons on the West Coast, Hawaii, Guam and Japan. The aircraft were ordered to undergo 48-hour safety tests before March 5. Squadrons will review safety issues, practice in simulators and review maintenance records.

The tests will include reviews of ejection operations and training for air crews. "Losing this many people is certainly not normal," said Cmdr. Gregg Hartung, spokes- Jeffrey L. Gaumer, CPA Income Tax Returns Call for appointment Eves. Weekends 366-2895.
