He was a command sergeant major of the 737th Maintenance Battallion of the Ohio National Guard in Newark; a member of the Zanesville Lions Club; and a veteran of World War II, having served in the Army. He then joined the Ohio National Guard, and served a total of 37Vi years in the military. Surviving are his wife, Shirley (Goddard) Untied; two daughters: Mrs.

Michael (Brenda) Williams of Painesville, and Mrs. Terry (Herberta) Morgan of Newark; four brothers: Kerney Untied and Paul Untied, both of Frazeysburg, Virgil Untied of Zanesville, and Arthur Untied of Dresden; three sisters: Mrs. Russell (Pearl) Trego of Frazeysburg, Mrs. Esther Freshwater ot Coshcoton ana Mrs. Lenora Johnson of Zanes ville; four grandchildren; and sev eral nieces and nephews.
