Milk Group Pushes For Price Hike Spokesmen for the Great Lakes Milk Marketing Federation have announced that their is backing a drive for a national hearing to add 50 cents a hundredweight quarts) to the minimum Federal Order Class 1 price for bottled milk. Charles Grube, Croton, president of the Central Ohio Milk Producers, told The Advocate, however, that local farmers would not be effected by the increase because they are already being paid a price well over the federal minimum.

Federation officials also said that farmers in the Great Lakes area, which includes the Central Ohio Co-op, have been paid a total of $40 million above the minimum Federal order in the past year. Officials are not sure what effect, if any, the proposed increase would have on the blend price actually paid to the farmer. The blend is an average of the Class 1 price and the Class 11 price, which is determined by by-product usage and market demand, and is somewhat lower than quoted Class 1 figure. Class 1 price in the Central Ohio area for August is $5.88 a hundredweight.
