Phillips Services for Howard Phillips, 75, whose daughter, Mrs.

Jack Ricketts, lives at Indianhead Drive, will be day in Zanesville. Mr. Phillips, a resident McConnelsville, died Thursday afternoon in a Zanesville doctor's office. A former resident of Newark, he had a studio of commercial arts in Elmwood Court, with late Charles McNeal. When Moore's Stores, Inc.

opened their Newark store, he was sociated with the organization as advertising manager until left Newark in 1939. Surviving are his widow, Ruth at home; daughter, Mrs. Ricketts; son, Howard, Detroit, a sister, Mrs. Paul Dorsey, Bartlesville, and grandchildren. Shirer, of Akron, died Thursday afternoon in Akron City Hospital. She was born March 31, 1886, in Toboso, to Levi and Jeanette Lescalleet Romine. Surviving are two sisters: Mrs. Davis, and Mrs. Jessie Beal of Akron.

Friends may call at the funeral home from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p. m. Sunday. Doris Ann Tabor Services for Doris Ann Tabor, 36, of Buckeye Lake, will be at 2 p.m. Saturday in Emerson Funeral Home, Kirkersville.

The Rev. Ralph Cross will officiate, and burial will be in Glen Rest Memorial Estate, Reynoldsburg. Miss Tabor died Thursday morning from injuries received in an automobile accident on I-70 Monday. She was born June 21, 1930, in Myra, W. to John and Mary Miller Tabor, of Buckeye Lake, who survive.

Also surviving are two brothers: Hartzel of Zanesville, and Thomas, Manassas Park, and a sister, Mrs. Betty Bergeson, Reynoldsburg. Friends may call at the funeral home today. Moundbuilders Lodge 821 of Elks will hold its first annual oratorical contest at 7:30 tonight at the Lincoln Junior High School auditorium.

This contest is open to all students grade nine through 12. These students will be required to make speeches of not more than 10 minutes duration on subjects which were furnished to the schools by the national educational department of the Elk's Grand Lodge. The winner of the local contest will compete in the district contest which will be held in Columbus or Newark May 28, and could, if successful in the district, compete in state and regional contests which will be held in June and July and eventually compete in the national contest at the Elk's Grand Lodge in Los Angeles, for a $1,000 scholarship. An all-expense-paid trip to California is provided to the regional winner. Judges for the local contest tonight will be Dr.

Lionel Crocker, chairman of the department of speech at Denison University; Clyde Moss, Newark Air Force Station, and Mrs. Bettie Sewards, local attorney.
