Susan Brooks of the Women's Army Corps, will be in Newark on Monday from 9:30 to 12:30. The Army Nurse Corps offers financial assistance to nursing students for a period of one to four years. Registered nurses are guaranted their choice of assignment, at home or overseas. The Women's Army Corps guarantees schooling before enlistment to qualified high school graduates. College graduates serve as Army officers throughout the world.

Further information on the Army programs open to women can be obtained by contacting the recruiters at the Krebs Building, 21 S. First St. LAST OF SIX PARTS Grandma's father Thomas Simpson was the son of William and Ann Vail Simpson who settled along Claylick Creek on a Revolutionary land grant. Grandma, who was reared in Madison Township, spent much of her girlhood riding along the creek, and in my childhood by buggy she drove me around the area, in Madison, Hopewell, Hanover and Franklin Townships. We got into some treacherous places on those trips, riding along logging roads or where there were no roads at all.

As we rode, she told me of the old families, often mentioning what seemed to me, because of their success and exploits, the almost legendary Wilkin brothers. As this Wilkin family is intimately connected with the history of St. John's Lutheran Church, LinnviUe Road, I checked with Mrs. J. H.

Criss, Hudson Avenue, whose great-great-great-grandmother was Hannah Wilkin, for what she recalled of the Wilkins, and she said, "I remember my great-aunt telling of the Wilkin brothers, seven or nine of them, and I recall a family picture of austere bearded men, but that picture is lost to us. Some of them went West." They did indeed, to become judges and citizens of importance. Actually there were only six brothers, the sons of John Wilkin, born Aug. 26, 1762. John married Hannah Cray-bill, who was born in Rockingham County, Va.

Their 9 children were Levi, Samuel, Daniel, John, David, Jacob, Hannah, Elizabeth and a last daughter whose name we do not know only that she married a Mr. Baker. This family of John Wilkin moved to Franklin Township in 1812, and is the family designated of John Wilkin, deceased" which made up part of the organizational membership of St. John's Lutheran Church as established as a society in 1817. John had died Sept.

1, 1814, and is buried in the Wilkin family graveyard on the left side of Route 311 (Linnville Road) a short distance south of the Lutheran (St. John's) cemetery. Jacob Wilkin, his brother, another founder of the St. John's Lutheran society organized in October, 1817, whose sesquicentennial St. John's Lutheran Church is observing tomorrow (Sunday, October 8), was born Feb.

10, 1788, and therefore was 26 years younger than John. These men were among the family of six sons and two daughters born to Matthias Wilkin, of German parentage, born in June, 1738. He married Margaret Wilson, and they lived in Shenandoah and Rockingham Counties, and afterwards at Wilkins Mills on Lost River in Hardy County, later on, West Virginia. The sons, more or less in order of birth, were John, Henry, George, Godfrey, Joseph, and Jacob; the daughters, Barbara and Rebecca Wilkin. With 26 years between, a good guess is that of the eight, John was the oldest child and Jacob the youngest.

Jacob married Mary Swisher, daughter of Nicholas Swisher. Their children were Isaac Wilkin, born July 11, 1806; Margaret Wilkin and Catherine Wilkin. Isaac Wilkin married Sarah Burner in Newark, Jan. 24, 1827, and died in Marshall, 111., Nov. 16, 1886.

Wife Sarah died July 21, 1895. They had nine children. Jacob Wilkin, born 1795, son of John Wilkin and Hannah Craybill Wilkin, married Catharine Burner. They had 10 children, of whom Enos, the eldest, was the father of Amanda Wilkin who married James Archibald Huston. Enos married Nancy Holmes, and they lived in the brick house built by William Spencer Wright (son of Spencer Wright, in later years known as the Frank Ray place, south side of the Newark-Granville road just east of Cherry Valley Road intersection.

A daughter of Amanda Wilkin and James A. Huston is Mrs. Henry Eaton (Hayesel Wilkin Huston) of Granville.
